It should be obvious by now that there is no “one right way” to tie any of these basic ties, and the same is true for the common folded-leg tie. You’ll often hear this called a “futomomo” or sometimes a “frog tie.” We’re not going to get into a discussion of proper names or the complexities of the Japanese language, but just know that some people feel strongly about what this tie should be called and what kinds of ties do and do not qualify.
Regardless of what it’s called, the essential aspect of the tie involves bringing the heel of the foot up against the butt (or as close as possible) and then using the rope to hold the leg in that position.
